Since it is National Poetry month, I wanted to do something a little different today. Below is a quote from Mary Oliver. Read it and think about it. What does it mean to you? How do you interpret it? What does it make you think of? Once you’ve examined the quote, I want you to write your own poem inspired by it.
Excerpt from Wild Geese by Mary Oliver:
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting —
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.
Send 10 minutes writing your own poem inspired by Mary Oliver’s lines. Focus on your word choices and the emotions behind it.
Happy writing!
